Medicare Plan Options

Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. They provide your Part A and Part B benefits, and many plans also include prescription drug coverage and additional benefits such as dental, vision, hearing, or fitness benefits.

Medicare Advantage Plans include:

• Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs)
• Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs)
• Private Fee-for-Service Plans (PFFS)
• Special Needs Plans (SNPs)
• Medicare Medical Savings Account Plans (MSAs)
   

When enrolled in Medicare Advantage, you receive your Medicare-covered Part A and Part B services through the plan.

Every Medicare Advantage Plan must cover what Original Medicare covers (except hospice care, which remains under Original Medicare). In addition, many plans in Pennsylvania and Delaware also include:

• Dental, vision, and hearing benefits
• Wellness and fitness programs
• Prescription drug coverage (Part D)

Medicare Supplement Insurance, also known as Medigap, is private insurance that works with Original Medicare to help pay certain out-of-pocket healthcare costs. Depending on the plan, Medicare Supplement coverage can help with costs such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.

Medigap plans can be a good option for people who want help managing the costs that Original Medicare does not fully cover.

• Medicare Supplement plans work with Original Medicare. 
• You pay a monthly premium for your Medigap policy in addition to your Medicare Part B premium. 
• Medicare Supplement policies cover one person, so spouses need separate policies. 
• Standardized Medigap policies are guaranteed renewable as long as required premiums are paid. 
• Some Medicare Supplement plans include coverage for certain emergency medical care while traveling outside the United States. 
• You cannot use a Medicare Supplement policy together with a Medicare Advantage plan.
